It has been a cold, snowy winter here in the DC Metropolitan area. Who would have thought that it would ever end…at last… Spring! Sigh. Take a minute and breathe it in. It’s ok, I’ll wait. The cherry blossoms are beginning to bloom as the last of the snow is slowly begins melting away.
It’s time to let ‘em fly!
Burleys and Sherrins! (I like the way that sounds.)
Springtime means it’s time to knock off the rust, break out the boots and have a kick! It is a reminder to all of us who slacked off during the winter months, guilty right here, that we need to work on our fitness and get ready for the upcoming Saturday Morning Footy summer sessions. As always, I was happy to see so many familiar faces. It was great to see some new ones too, even if they are Tiger and Cats supporters, at least it’s not that other club.
The 2014 Season will kick off on March 29 at Long Bridge #1 in Crystal City, Arlington VA. The Open Day session will begin at 9am and run through to 10.30am. The session is free for boys and girls aged 5 to 15. Note that Long Bridge is an all-weather turf field.
Come out and try the great game of Australian football at the 2014 SMF Open Day!
The session will include fun games and activities for the U9s that teach the skills and rules of Australian football. The session will finish with a non-contact game.
The U15s will work on improving skills including hand-ball, kicking and team work. The players will split up to play a non-contact game.
It is that time of year again… No, not that!
It’s the Saturday Morning Footy Winter Camp. YEAH! At a pleasant 37 degrees it was a great day for Footy. Coach Chris did an excellent job of planning and instructing us on proper kicking, handball and other important techniques. As always this is an opportunity to reconnect with the game, reinforce fundamentals, and grow our skills. It is also an important reminder that we need to keep working on those skills for the upcoming summer sessions. Ok, ok, ok so in the spirit of the season. I give you this…
T’was the night before footy and all through the house,
Coach Chris was checking equipment and running all about.
The Sherrins were all bagged and readied with care,
Mrs. Deena was excited to see who would be there.
Our children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Speckies danced in their heads.
Each of them dreaming how to launch off the bag,
